5 Essential Things to Remember When Stepping Out With Your Baby
Although parenting advice is freely available, most of it is learned on the fly. Making checklists can reduce some of the uncertainty that comes with the job. Here are 5 essential guidelines for keeping your bundle of joy cozy when you are stepping out with your baby.
1. Pack for the Weather
Check the weather for the place you are visiting and let that dictate your baby's wardrobe. Always put comfort over appearance, as unusual weather could make your little one vulnerable.
| Weather | What to Pack |
| Cold Weather | Woolens, monkey caps, socks, tiny hand gloves, soft breathable jackets |
| Sunny Weather | Cotton clothes, sunscreen, umbrella, hats for your baby |
2. Maintain Your Baby's Routine
If planning to go out for a day or two, ensure that food time and bed-time are maintained so the baby does not become cranky. Remember to carry a pack of diapers, as you might not easily find them at remote locations away from the city.
3. Carry Baby Cream and Lotion
Winters make the skin dry and itchy, while summers make it oily and sweaty. Carry a good baby cream and moisturiser to protect your baby's skin. Buy a cream with high SPF content to protect against harmful UV rays.
4. Always Carry a Basic First-Aid Kit
When on the road with a tot, always have a small first-aid kit handy. Your kit should include:
- Necessary ointments, antiseptics, and band-aids
- A good thermometer
- Herbal mosquito repellents and mat machines
- Earbuds or cotton for the baby's ears in noisy environments
- A mask for smoke and polluted air
5. Never Forget the Diaper Bag
Always have your baby's diaper bag ready, even for a short walk. A diaper bag is necessary if your baby is below 2 years and has not been potty trained. For long drives, extra diapers are an insurance for keeping your baby clean, dry, and happy.
