34 Weeks Pregnant: Baby's Senses, Skin Changes and Safety
Sshhhh... watch what you say, mommy! At 34 weeks pregnant, your inquisitive little one can hear everything you say. In fact, your baby may be enjoying the lullabies you hum, so go ahead and sing - do not worry about being off-key! While everything feels squeezed and squashed in your mid-section, stretch out whenever possible. Take heart, you are almost there!
If you are having a boy, your pregnancy hormones will cause his scrotum to be swollen at birth. Similarly, a baby girl's vulva will appear puffy and swollen. Both changes settle down in the first few weeks after birth. Your baby is opening and closing their eyes easily now. The vernix caseosa continues to protect your baby's skin, while the lanugo - the soft, downy hair covering the skin - is starting to disappear this week.
Physical Changes at 34 Weeks Pregnant
- Cramping: At 34 weeks, your body is getting ready for the big day and cramping sensations are totally normal. However, if you experience pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding, or lower back pain, call your doctor immediately.
- Baby descending: Your belly may appear a little lower because the baby may have descended into your pelvis, causing more frequent trips to the restroom due to bladder pressure.
- Amniotic fluid: The amniotic fluid is at its peak during this time, allowing your baby room to grow and move.
Helpful Hints for Week 34 of Pregnancy
- Babymoon: A babymoon is a great chance to spend quality time with your partner. Take your camera and capture photos of your pregnant belly.
- Body image: You may not feel attractive now, but there will come a time when you look back at photos and appreciate how amazing you looked.
- Balance and safety: Your centre of balance is changing and it is common for pregnant women to fall over. You cannot see the ground as clearly because your tummy is in the way, so take your time and tread carefully.
